So, even as a wholly dedicated Mac weenie / freak / guru (I prefer the third option, but have often been saddled with the other two) I sometimes need windows.

    Interesting and well written review. Thanks. I use Parallels, I find it great. Do you have enough experience of Parallels to make a speed comparison? This isn't meant to be provocative, but if VirtualBox is quicker, I'll switch...

    Hey, thanks for the comment!

    I've used Parallels quite a lot, actually, and on a low-fi install of windows like I use, I find VB to be much, much faster. I don't have bench figures, or anything, but my poor little MacBook running only 1G of ram runs MUCH better when running VB vs running Parallels.

    IE runs under WINE, too. I'm pretty sure there's a Darwin port (darwine?), and then IEs4Linux (http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page) should work.

    All good points. Indeed, ies4linux has even been ported to OSX -> http://www.kronenberg.org/ies4osx/

    However, I've tried ALL those and had frequent font issues, and a few gui issues (toolbar icons not displaying, etc) that really undermine my confidence. Running on an actual windows install feels a lot more secure.

    Nice work Brad! and very Thorough.... I will have to check out VB for much the same reason.
    I am looking forward to your Vitriolic post on CSS in IE... I am out of my mind with frustration in that arena!

    Bob! Thanks! I was going for thorough. I didn't think I'd ever write this many words for anything. I wish my 10th grade english teacher could see me now..

    As for the CSS/IE post.. There probably aren't enough profanities to properly encapsulate my feelings on the topic. I'll need to wait for the lexicon of vulgarity to properly evolve :P

    I've used Parallels and Fusion - just for simple Windows accounting and office software and found them frustrating. I just cannot believe Virtualbox - its so FAST. Absolutely BRILLIANT
